PILGRIMAGES AND SANTA FAZ FAIR

On Thursday, May 2nd, thousands of people from Alicante celebrate the Pilgrimage to Santa Faz or the Pilgrim’s Day, tradition intimately tied to the history of Alicante and Sant Joan.

On Sunday, May 5th, hundreds of neighbours from Sant Joan will go out to celebrate the Civic Pilgrimage to Santa Faz, tradition organized by Junta de Peñas in collaboration with the Councillorship of Festivities, and that year by year attracts visitors from other neighbouring towns.

 

OFFICIAL PROGRAMME – Alicante, May 2nd

 

07:00 hours: Distribution of 10.000 free rosemary canes in Concatedral de San Nicolás (Sant Nicolás Co-Cathedral) and Plaza del Ayuntamiento (Town Hall).

08:00 hours: Departure from Concatedral de San Nicolás (San Nicolás Co-Cathedral) to the Monasterio de la Santa Faz (Santa Faz Monastery) following the usual itinerary.

 

 

ITINERARY: Concatedral de San Nicolás (Puerta Negra), Calle Miguel Soler, Calle San Nicolás, Calle Mayor, Plaza Santa Faz, Calle Mayor, Calle Villavieja, Calle Virgen del Socorro, Avenida de Denia, Ctra. Alicante-Valencia-Caserío Santa Faz.

07:00 to 11:30 hours: Municipal Paraeta (stand) with anise rolls and mistela, in the Avenida de Denia, by the Complejo Vistahermosa.

10:00 hours (approximately): Arrival of the Official Procession to the Monasterio de Santa Faz (monastery), opening of the Holy Face Tabernacle, and Holy Mass.

11:30 hours (approximately): Return of the Sacred Relic to the Niche.

PROGRAMME – Sant Joan, May 5th

 

10:00 hours: Meeting point in Plaza de la Constitución, anise rolls and mistela, distribution of canes.

10:30 hours (approximately): Departure of the Civic Pilgrimage from Plaza de la Constitución to the Monasterio de la Santa Faz.

From May 2nd to 5th, the traditional Santa Faz Market will be located in Santa Faz town as well as in Sant Joan d’Alacant, where it will be possible to enjoy the Fair and the stalls selling traditional products.
