On Thursday, the 12th of April, thousands of natives of Alicante celebrate the Pilgrimage to the Holy Face or the Pilgrim’s Day, tradition intimately tied to the history of Alicante and Sant Joan d’Alacant.
On Sunday, the 15th of April, hundreds of neighbors of Sant Joan will go out to the street to celebrate the Civic Pilgrimage to the Holy Face, tradition organized by the ‘Junta de Peñas’ in collaboration with the Councillorship of Sant Joan, and which year after year, attracts more visitors of other nearby populations.
OFFICIAL PROGRAM – Alicante, on April 12
07:00 hours: Share-out of 10.000 free canes of rosemary in Concatedral de San Nicolás and Square of the Town hall.
08:00 hours: Departing from Concatedral de San Nicolás up to the Monastery of the Holy Face.
ITINERARY: Concatedral de San Nicolás (Puerta Negra), Calle Miguel Soler, Calle San Nicolás, Calle Mayor, Plaza Santa Faz, Calle Mayor, Calle Villavieja, Calle Virgen del Socorro, Avenida de Denia, Ctra. Alicante-Valencia-Caserío Santa Faz.
07:00 to 11:30 hours: Municipal Paraeta with anise rolls and mistela, in the Avenue of Denia, in the Complex Vistahermosa.
10:00 hours: (approximately). Official Covery arrives to the Monastery of the Holy Face. Aperture of the Holy’s Face Tabernacle, and later Santa Misa.
11:30 hours: (approximately) return of the Sacred Relic to the Tabernacle.
PROGRAM – Sant Joan, on April 15
9:30 hours – 10:00 hours, meeting point in Plaza de la Constitución, anise rolls of and mistela, canes share-out.
10:30 hours (approximately), Departing of the Civic Pilgrimage from Plaza de la Constitución up to the Monastery of the Holy Face

From April 12th until April 15th the traditional Market of the Holy Face will be placed in Santa Faz and Sant Joan d’Alacant, where it will be possible to enjoy the Fair and the stalls will sell traditional products.
