Sports and Tournaments
Sant Joan d’Alacant is a very active and athlete municipality. And as such, it has multiple clubs and sports associations which allows to offer a wide variety of sports and physical activities for all santjoaners, adults, children and young people.
The Municipal Sports Centre becomes an activator of the sports activities organizing Sport Schools for children, as well as taking part in different provincial and regional leagues. It has large facilities for the practice of multitude of sport disciplines including the ‘petanca’ and the Valencian ‘pilota’ (ball game). Municipal Sports Center

Valencian Pilota
Talking about pilota, is talking about tradition, sport and culture, which in Sant Joan d’Alacant is perfectly maintained by the Benimagrell Pilota Club. All members of the club preserve it by doing sport and passing on our culture to family and neighbours, not only to the Benimagrell neighbourhood but also to different regions of Europe. Making a historical journey, the Valencian pilota has always been very connected to our town, through very tenacious people.
Petanca
This sport arouses strong emotions among the neighbors of Sant Joan. This is so real that the petanca playing area has hosted numerous championships along the year both local and national. Among these championships are: the regional tournaments between the different local municipalities, the Foursquare Petanque Championship organized by “Amics de la Petanca” or the Spanish Championship of Individual Petanque, wich includes both categories feminine and masculine, by the hand of the Spanish Federation of Petanque.
Every Saturday and Sunday at 5:00 p.m. anyone who whises, can swing by to a Melé Petanque Contest, on the petanca tracks of Pintor Ribera Street, next to the Salvador Gosálbez Alberola Senior Center. The game system is for double blows and is organized by the Club de Petanca San Juan.
Other sports activities
Since 5 years ago,Sant Joan has been celebrating a Christmas Race that encourages sanjoaners and visitors to participate in challenges adapted to all levels: 5 km, 10 km and Infant, distinguishing the different categories by sex. The category that corresponds to the 10 km is part of the “10k Circuit Costa Blanca Alicante Trophy Information” organized by Pepe Brotons.
The aim of this Circuit is to promote physical activity so it serves as a factor to prevent cardiovascular diseases, while offering the possibility of occupying leisure time; in short, is sport for all. They try to offer to the citizens the possibility of participation throughout the year in this type of trials within the Province of Alicante.
