Geographic situation
Sant Joan d’Alacant is a coastal town located in the Comunitat Valenciana (Valencian Autonomous Region). It forms part of the Region of l’Alacantí in the province of Alicante (Spain) and it is the geographic centre of the old Horta d’Alacant. Located on the Costa Blanca it shares borders with Alicante (7 km), Mutxamel (1 km) and El Campello (3 km). The campus of Health Sciences of the Miguel Hernández University is located in the municipality.

Alicante-Elche Airport
The way that connects Sant Joan d’Alacant with the airport passes through the city of Alicante.
With private transportation, the recommended way is to take the A-70 that would leave you in 20-25 minutes at your destination. The interurban transport also facilitates the communication, but always with a forecast of 1 hour and 30min approximately:
Addressing the airport: it is recommended to take the bus line 23 (with an interval of 9 minutes and service from Monday to Sunday) or Line 23N (a night line from 24:00 hours to 06:00 hours, which carries out the same route from Friday to Sunday with an interval of 60 minutes) that allows the connection between our municipality and Alicante. The bus stop in Alicante is set in “Hermanos López de Osaba – MARQ”. From this point, take the bus line C6 at “Vázquez de Mella”. The C6 line has a service from 5:00 to 24:00 hours from Monday to Sunday, every 20 minutes and ends at the airport.
Addresing Sant Joan d’Alacant: it will be done in the opposite direction. First, take the bus line C6 to the “Loring-Estación Autobuses” stop and from there, take the bus line 23 at “Reyes Católicos 47” that will take you to Sant Joan d’Alacant.

Connections
It connects to Alicante through Miguel Hernández Avenue and Denia Avenue. It has an interurban transport service, which connects our municipality with Alacant as well as with El Campello, San Juan beach and Sant Vicent del Raspeig, through different bus lines. Line 23 (ALICANTE-HOSPITAL SANT JOAN-SANT JOAN-MUTXAMEL), with an interval of 9 minutes and service from Monday to Sunday, and the line 23N, a night line (24:00 a 06:00 h), which carries out the same route from Friday to Sunday with an interval of 60 minutes. Line C-53 (HOSPITAL SANT JOAN-CAMPELLO) with an interval of 60 minutes. And line 38 (ALBUFERETA-PLAYA SAN JUAN-HOSPITAL SANT JOAN-UNIVERSITY). This line is from Monday to Friday throughout the year. Climate and well-being
Sant Joan d’Alacant enjoys 180 bright days a year and enjoys a privileged climate with average temperatures above 11 degrees in winter and around 22 in summer, with an average maximum in August of less than 30 degrees and a minimum average in January higher than 6 degrees, being the average temperatures from November to February higher than those of Murcia and Valencia. It is not normal having more than two consecutive days of rain or cloudy skies. That is why it is an ideal municipality to live or enjoy pleasant holidays. The sunny days outside of the summer season are also delightful to enjoy a walk through the town, its fields, or a terrace to have lunch or tapas.

Leisure and Events
Its proximity to Alacant and San Juan beach (2 km) has turned it into a residential town. In its attempt not to be a mere dormitory town, it has managed to create an important network of shopping and leisure centres. In the town centre there are many shops and restaurants, and on the sides of the motorway to Valencia there is a large shopping avenue that offers all the necessary services such as clothing, food, hairdressing, furniture, decoration, and an ample space dedicated to leisure and entertainment. Art and culture
Sant Joan d’Alacant concentrates its cultural activities between the House of Culture and the Cultural Centre (Library and Municipal Archive), where the culture acquires its greater prominence, as spaces of encounter and leisure. The cultural offer is vast, and it is monthly renewed to offer diverse activities: theatre, dance, festivals, music, exhibitions, etc. Among the many consolidated contests we highlight the Sant Joan d’Alacant Film Festival in its XVI Edition, the National Painting Competition Vila de Sant Joan d’Alacant, XLIX Edition and the Narrative Contest of the Hoguera Plaza Maisonnave, X Edition. As for its Cultural Agenda, the programming is done now bimonthly and the music in Sant Joan is always present through extraordinary concerts, Spring concerts, Summer Festivals, Santa Cecilia and Christmas.

Health and well-being
Our municipality, from its sanitary and social welfare areas, has the mission to promote public health by means of prevention, information, training and health surveillance, managing its own resources to improve the quality of life of the citizens of Sant Joan d’Alacant.

We have the sanitary pillars of provincial reference such as the Sant Joan University Hospital and the University Miguel Hernández University (UMH) with the Faculties of Medicine and Pharmacy, in addition to the Centre of Transfusions of the Comunitat Valenciana and the Health Centre.

The Institute of Neurosciences, dependent on the UMH and the CSIC, is a reference at the European level. Since 1999, the Institute has consolidated its position as a national and international reference centre in the field of neuroscience. In 2013, the Institute obtained the accreditation of Severo Ochoa Centre of Excellence and some of its scientists have won the Rey Jaime I Award in Basic Research: Carlos Belmonte (1992), Ángela Nieto (2009) and Óscar Marín (2011 ).

Also the Psychiatric Centre and the Anti-alcoholic Unit are located in the municipality, both dependents of the Provincial Council. Regarding community services and health care services, the town has the San Juan Residential Complex (PSN) and the Residential Centre for Railway Pensioners due to its assistance character. The Municipal Centre for Elderly People “Salvador Gosálbez Alberola”, on the other hand, is a socio-cultural reference for this age group, with its varied offer of workshops and activities.

Fairs and Street Markets
The municipality of Sant Joan d’Alacant celebrates its annual fairs such as the Santa Faz Market, which is named after this festival, the Christmas Fair usually held in the second week of December and the Andalusian Fair.

Among its wide offer you can visit the Mercado de Abastos (provisions market), located in Calle Mercat, s / n. from Monday to Saturday where they sell all kinds of food products. It is complemented on Saturdays with street market located in calle del Mercado and calle Ordana. There is also the Mercado de Arrels, with agro-ecological products that takes place the second Sunday of each month in Plaza de España (Town Hall). In addition, other interesting private markets are the Benimagrell’s street market on Saturdays and Sundays on the Valencia motorway 22, where performances of musical groups and children’s activities are held every month. Gastronomía

Every Sunday the Santa Faz’s street market, where you can buy all kinds of products such us clothes, fruits and vegetables of the Horta and endless goods, is installed.

Sports and Tournaments
The Municipal Sports Centre becomes an activator of the sports activities organizing Sport Schools for children, as well as taking part in different provincial and regional leagues. It has large facilities for the practice of multitude of sport disciplines including the ‘petanca’ and the Valencian ‘pilota’ (ball game).
