The Town Council of Sant Joan d’Alacant rolls out the red carpet again to present the 18th Edition of Sant Joan Film Festival, which will take place from 12 to 19 May at the concert hall of Casa de Cultura. This year, it pays homage to the 50th anniversary of the film “2001: A Space Odyssey”, directed by Stanley Kubrick.
Sant Joan Film Festival turns 18 years of experience breaking, once again, its record in participation. This year, a total of 945 national short films have been received, 75 more than the previous edition.
In this edition of the festival, 29 short films will be showed, and 27 of them will will compete for the award Ficus de Oro Sant Joan d’Alacant al Mejor Cortometraje de Sección Oficial. This award consists of 2,000€ and its participation in the Goya Awards, provided that it meets the Academy requirements.

Scheduled Events before the Festival
- From 8 to 11 May:
17:00h. Criatura Lab. Collaborative art workshop consisting in making a creature of recyclable materials and common tools, resulting in a unique and interactive creation, which will be exhibited at Casa de Cultura from 12 to 19 May.
- 10 May:
19:30h. “Cinefórum literario” Starship Troopers by Paul Verhoeven. Auditorium of Casa de Cultura.
- 11 May:
17:00h. MasterClass “Maquillaje Alfombra Roja”. Noelia Espinós offers a Mater Class, on the occasion of the Sant Joan Film Festival week, specialized in red carpet make-up. Casa de cultura.
- 12 May:
11:30h. Flashmob. Naracé Dance Company will offer a show from Plaza de la Ordana to Plaza Maisonnave.
12:30h. “Música a la plaça” with The Red Apples, a Tarantino’s Motherf**ker Tribute. Music Band that make covers of Quentin Tarantino’s soundtracks. Plaza Maisonnave.
20:00h. Opening ceremony of the 18th Sant Joan d’Alacant Film Festival. Film program “Wagner Now” by the musical society La Paz, a synchronized images show with live concert of soundtracks.
